Expansion CoLab
Expansion CoLab was a design collaborative established at Cranbrook Academy of Art between students from the Architecture and Ceramics departments, stemming from the design and mass production of a hexagonal brick module. Inspired by the hexagon as a pattern unit prevalent in nature, Hex Brick applies the two-dimensional idea of the honeycomb pattern to a three-dimensional construct. As a flat pattern, the honeycomb is infinitely expandable, and this project aims to architecturalize that property via modularity and the integration of various joinery options for countless configurations.
